Since ancient times, one of the most important aspects of human life has been the protection of oneself, loved ones, and homeland. In this educational session, we will explore how the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was defended from its founding until the late 18th century. We will investigate what led to the construction of Vilnius’s defensive wall, and why the Vilnius Bastion — the only one of its kind in Lithuania — was built, and for whom.

By delving into the history of the Vilnius Bastion, we will travel through key — and sometimes unexpected — periods, events, and secrets in the history of Vilnius and Lithuania. Participants will not only uncover new details about the city’s past, expand their vocabulary, and learn to navigate historical time periods, but will also become history detectives, unlocking the mysteries of the past themselves.
