The National Museum of Lithuania Invite Visitors to Discover Stories at the “Book Square”

2025 09 04

On September 5–7, one of the city’s biggest festivals – “Vilnius Days 2025” – will take place in Vilnius. During the event, next to the Cathedral, the Book Square will be set up – a pavilion organized by the Lithuanian Publishers Association and its members, among them the National Museum of Lithuania (NML). Visitors will be invited to discover NML Publishing House books about Lithuania’s history, culture, and heritage, explore the latest publications, and purchase surprises at especially friendly prices.

At the NML Publishing House stand, readers will be able to buy publications, meet museum representatives, and learn about publishing news. According to NML Publishing House head Justina Brukštutė-Šimkė:
“The Book Square is a unique opportunity for the museum to reach readers. Here, books become a living conversation between readers and creators. We are delighted to present our latest publications, invite people to discussions, and strengthen community spirit together. For the museum, books are stories one can take home.”

Activities for Families and the Presentation of the Exhibition on Dogs in History

On Friday, September 5, at 2:30 p.m., on the Book Square stage near the pavilion, museum archaeologist Dr. Povilas Blaževičius and educator Greta Gaidelytė will present the exhibition “History Wags Its Tail” and a family-friendly book based on it. The event will feature stories about humans’ first companions – dogs: from ties revealed by archaeological finds to daily life in manor houses and cities, from ancient hunting dogs to today’s beloved couch companions. Visitors will discover why dogs bark, what their noses are for, and what bones can tell us. A fun educational activity will be offered for both children and adults.

After the presentation, and at the museum stand, readers will have the chance to meet Sigita Mikšaitė, NML archaeologist and author of “History Wags Its Tail”, who will sign copies of the book and leave personal messages: September 5, 3:15–5 p.m , September 6, 2–4 p.m.

New Publications and Discoveries

The NML Publishing House consistently publishes books on history, archaeology, ethnology, and culture.
