Last chance at LNM exhibition “RAVE NATION”
2025 10 24
Until October 31, you can still experience the Lithuanian National Museum’s exhibition “RAVE NATION. To Freedom by the Rhythms of the Night. 1992–2004” at the Lukiškės Prison Complex (Lukiškių skg. 6, Vilnius) — one of this year’s most striking shows, telling the story of how Lithuania, after regaining its independence, discovered its nocturnal pulse. Tickets are available via Bilietai.lt.
Rave as a Laboratory of Cultural Freedom
“RAVE NATION” is a journey back to a time when freedom was new, when dance meant resistance, and when sound became a language of identity. This Lithuanian National Museum exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore Lithuania’s nightlife from 1992 to 2004 — the years when rave evolved from a Western import into a distinctly local culture marked by tension, creativity, and a hunger for self-expression.
Here, rave is not just about parties. It’s a laboratory of creative and social freedom, where new identities, movements, fashions, ideas, and sounds were born.

The exhibition presents authentic artifacts from the era’s rave scene: photographs, flyers, sound equipment, video and audio recordings, clothing, and other early club culture objects and memories. The extensive involvement of the rave community has made this exhibition a multivoiced story about a time when the whole of Lithuania was learning how to be free.
The Rave Map: From Vilnius to Marijampolė
The exhibition intertwines scenes from different Lithuanian cities — Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Panevėžys, and Marijampolė. Each city created its own rhythm: from Vilnius’ “triangle of death” to the utopian Hesperus club in the fields; from Klaipėda’s docks to Kaunas’ Stepžiukas; from Šiauliai’s industrial Sklepas parties to Panevėžys’ Techno Valentinas.
“RAVE NATION” immerses visitors like a three-dimensional atlas of Lithuanian club culture, composed of archives, memories, and rhythm.
Alongside these artifacts, the exhibition showcases works by internationally renowned artists reflecting rave energy — from flashes of nocturnal euphoria to reflections on technology, embodiment, and resistance. Featured artists include Rineke Dijkstra, Tony Cokes, Mark Leckey, Bogomir Doringer, Tania Mouraud, Ervinas Faktura, Liudmila, Elena Krukonytė, Aistė Radzevičiūtė, Aleks Bunis (Ziog), and others.

The Final Week for an Unforgettable Experience
The spaces of the Lukiškės Prison, where the exhibition takes place, were until recently closed and inaccessible to the public. They have been revived specially for this event, offering visitors an immersive and unforgettable experience that captures the atmosphere and emotion of the rave era.
“RAVE NATION” has already attracted thousands of visitors, but this cultural event is approaching its end. Until October 31, visitors have a final chance to attend the exhibition and feel the rhythms of freedom that defined the first nights of independent Lithuania.
The Lithuanian National Museum’s exhibition “RAVE NATION. To Freedom by the Rhythms of the Night. 1992–2004” runs until October 31 at the Lukiškės Prison Complex (Lukiškių skg. 6, Vilnius), open daily from 12 PM to 8 PM. Tickets are available at Bilietai.lt. More information at lnm.lt.
