A journey of miracles at the National Museum of Lithuania

2025 12 01

The Lithuanian National Museum (LNM) invites everyone to embark on a journey of festive experiences. A wide program of LNM events will allow visitors of all ages to feel the excitement of the holiday season and discover something new. Alongside the events, the museum will present greetings to the community — on December 3, an installation of the LNM Advent Calendar will be set up next to the House of Histories (T. Kosciuškos St. 3, Vilnius).

Advent Calendar at the House of Histories

For the second year in a row, the Lithuanian National Museum will greet the community by presenting a festive installation. Last year it was a small train next to the newest LNM branch, the House of the Guardian (Arsenalo St. 1, Vilnius). This year the museum will unveil an interactive Advent Calendar outside the LNM House of Histories. The museum invites everyone to explore the calendar and discover the greetings hidden inside it.

Family Memories

The Lithuanian National Museum invites children to create, play, and experience small discoveries. In Vilnius, at the LNM Old Arsenal (Arsenalo St. 3, Vilnius), families will embark on a journey through the prehistoric world, where during the educational workshop “A Postcard from the Cave” (December 6 at 12 p.m.) children will create their first “cave find.”
At the LNM House of the Signatories (Pilies St. 26, Vilnius), the experiential tour “When History Smells Like Marzipan” (December 6, 13, 20, 27, 31 and January 3 at 12 p.m.) will bring 17th-century Vilnius back to life.
The House of the Signatories also invites visitors of all ages to city tours revealing how Vilnius residents celebrated 100 years ago (December 7, 14, 21, 27 and January 3, 4 at 3 p.m.; December 26 at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.; December 31 at 2 p.m.).
Educational workshops “How the Iron Wolf Didn’t Steal Christmas!” will take place at the LNM Gediminas Tower (December 26, 12–3 p.m.), where children will learn the legend of Vilnius’ founding, the secrets of Grand Duke Gediminas’ era, and create a Christmas tree ornament.
For the holidays, the LNM House of the Guardian will present a new educational game “The Treasure of Lithuania” (December 27 and January 3 at 1 p.m.). Participants will search for hidden cards in the historical cellars, fold paper airplanes, listen to unusual sounds, and discover the treasures hidden in Lithuania.

Entertainment will not be limited to Vilnius — LNM branches in Palanga, Kudirkos Naumiestis, and Ožkabaliai also invite visitors to their events.
The LNM Jonas Šliūpas Museum (Vytauto St. 23A, Palanga) invites families to test their knowledge in a festive quiz (December 5 at 4 p.m.). Young creators are also invited to Christmas ornament workshops “Memory” (December 3 at 3 p.m.) and “Little Angel” (December 10 and 18 at 3 p.m.).
An Advent afternoon will take place at the LNM Vincas Kudirka Museum (V. Kudirkos St. 29, Kudirkos Naumiestis, Šakiai District) on December 18 at 1 p.m., featuring a concert by students of the Šakiai District Art School Kudirkos Naumiestis branch and an exhibition of their art works.
At the LNM Jonas Basanavičius Birthplace (Gimtinės St. 17, Ožkabaliai I Village, Vilkaviškis District), visitors can book educational activities “When the Christmas Tree Is at Home” and “The Nine-Horned Deer Comes Running.”

Miracles at Any Age

The museum invites visitors of all ages to feel the magic of the holiday season. In Vilnius, the LNM House of Histories will host Christmas quizzes (December 6 at 4 p.m. and December 17 at 6 p.m.).
The tour “Ancient Gift-Giving Traditions” (December 10 at 6 p.m. and December 13 at 1 p.m.) at the House of Histories will reveal how gifting customs have changed for various occasions.
At the LNM Kazys Varnelis House-Museum (Didžioji St. 26, Vilnius), a calm and cozy atmosphere will be created during the experiential evening “The Resonance of Light” (December 13 at 6 p.m.).
The LNM Bastion of the Vilnius Defensive Wall will reveal the mystique of the underground during the event “Whispers of the Bastion” (December 18 at 6 p.m.) and offer unexpected ways to experience Vilnius’ history in the sensory performance “Vilnius Experiences Itself” (December 26 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.; December 30 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.).

In Palanga, the LNM Jonas Šliūpas Museum will hold an evening with the living history club “Pilsots” — “Winter Solstice in Baltic Mythology: Cases of Festival Reconstruction” (December 4 at 5 p.m.). The event will provide an opportunity to look at ancient customs through the lens of living history and discuss attempts to celebrate the winter solstice authentically.
Seniors are invited to an Advent gathering and creative workshop in Kudirkos Naumiestis at the LNM Vincas Kudirka Museum (December 4 at 11 a.m.).
