Meeting with artist Evy Jokhova and artist-theorist Paulius Petraitis

Employing image recognition software Lisbon and Tallinn based artist Evy Jokhova and artist-theorist Paulius Petraitis will present an image and text project that weaves together contemporary mythologies through hashtags and captions based on the visual archive associated with Marija Gimbutas’ research.
E. Jokhova is a multi disciplinary artist working between Lisbon and Tallinn. She employs drawing, sculpture, installation, sound, film and participatory events to investigate the relationships between social anthropology, architecture, philosophy, food and art.

Currently working on a research project in collaboration with Centro Selva in Peru Jokhova is the recipient of numerous awards including Arts Council Individual Grants Award, Belvedere Museum Vienna residency and commission and Royal Academy Schools Fellowship.

P. Petraitis is an artist, theorist and independent curator, based in Vilnius. Much of his work explores the role of technology in meaning-making and examines ways photographic images function in online and offline environments.

P. Petraitis curated “On Photographic Beings” (2020) at the Latvian National Museum of Art and “Vorsprung durch Technik” (2021) at Atletika in Vilnius. His personal project “A man with dark hair and a sunset in the background” (2017-20) explores visual recognition through a dialogue-based approach with an image interpretation software, and was recently published by 6 chairs books and Lugemik.
