How do we work with heritage that no longer forms a coherent whole, that may no longer exist, or that perhaps never truly existed as a unified entity? The international conference “Scattered, Rediscovered, Connected” invites museum professionals, collection curators, historians, art historians, and heritage researchers to explore fragmented, displaced, or deliberately dispersed cultural heritage.
The conference aims to discuss how museums and memory institutions identify, interpret, recontextualise, and seek to reconnect dispersed heritage objects—drawing on archives, digital tools, community engagement, and ethical storytelling.
Heritage may be scattered as a result of war, colonisation, political regimes, the art market, or institutional decisions. Yet even when separated by distance or emerging at different times, these objects continue to speak. Today, they speak through digital collections, hybrid (physical and virtual) exhibitions, open data, community projects, and international networks.
