Festival of stories “My Migration Story” / #4
People find themselves outside their motherland for a variety of reasons, but their experiences are similar.
For the fourth time, the National Museum of Lithuania is organising the festival of stories “My Migration Story” dedicated to deeper understanding and feeling of migration experiences. The event will also be enriching to those who have never emigrated for the hardships of migrants are universal, recognizable to everyone: the search for a home, striking up friendships, starting a family, a career.

We invite you to embark on a journey spanning over 150 years. During it, you will learn about the main waves of Lithuanian migration, their directions, reasons, and the stories of eminent figures who left an indelible mark in the global context with their lives and activities. As you listen to a guide’s engrossing story, you will find yourselves in a farmer’s house, a steamboat cabin, a slaughterhouse in Chicago, an American bar, and a departure lounge in an airport. You will experience how migration affects people as well as how migrants affect the world.

This is a crash course led by the professional storyteller Milda Varnauskaitė. In just one hour of this highly interactive session, you will learn the basics of oral storytelling, which, later on, you will be able to apply at work, at home, or on a date!

In the event, you will have the possibility to learn more about the cuisine, culture, and customs of the Philippines (meryenda, Filipino snacks), Ghana (the MaxDorc Kitchen), India, Ethiopia, and Eritrea.
The interactions will be in Lithuanian and English, you will have the chance to taste food free of charge.
Let us set off on a historical journey of Lithuanian migration! Here, you will find out when and why, where and how people would leave their homeland, what challenges they would have to face. Having explored various historical periods, means of transport; having visited different countries of the world, kids will be able to make their own colourful souvenir from the journey.
The education is most suited for 6–12-year-old children.

This game is about celebrating cultural diversity, so gather your team of up to six people or join a group on-site and get ready to expand your horizons.
Narmin Aliyeva has been organizing quizzes in Lithuania and abroad for seven years, attracting large numbers of participants in Kaunas. The quiz will take place in the café of the House of Histories, drinks and snacks will be available.

We kindly invite you to listen to the international choir of Vilnius “The Garfunkels.” This is a vocal ensemble formed by the Belgian musician Matthieu Bruyndonckx. Every Wednesday evening, around 25 singers gather at Vilnius Academy of Arts in order to achieve two simple goals: to experience JOY and to create BEAUTY. Immigrants, locals, employees of international companies, Erasmus students, diplomats, beginners and advanced singers from more than 15 countries… The choir performs gospels, pop music, and folk songs in English, French, and Lithuanian.
In the evening, we would like to invite you to share your stories and your perceptions of what HOME means to you. Whatever the reason for leaving, we always look for a home to return to. Home is not a building but rather a feeling that is sometimes difficult to describe, and yet you want to feel it and to recreate it. Everyone will be able to tell a story of their migration, a story of their homesickness or finding a new home as well as to listen to the stories told by others.
The evening will be hosted by Milda Varnauskaitė-Storyteller, participants will be able to enjoy some soup.

Sandra Carrillo’s unique performance charged with energy and Spanish temperament will be overflowing – we can guarantee this. Sandra masterfully controls the audience on stage, among her guests, and on the dance floor she frequents, thus inviting everyone to a fiesta of Spanish reggaeton. Sandra Carrillo comes from Barcelona, lives in Lithuania, is a participant and laureate of many international vocal competitions.
