A history lesson can take place not only in the classroom but also in places where students can feel the atmosphere of the past. This was experienced by the participants of the “Education Fair” held at Vilnius Duke Gediminas Progymnasium.
Over 30 Lithuanian museums took part in the event, including the National Museum of Lithuania, which presented its latest educational activities organized in the House of Histories, Castellan’s House, Gediminas Castle Tower, the House of Signatories, the Kazys Varnelis House-Museum, Vincas Kudirka Museum, and the Jonas Basanavičius Birthplace exhibition divisions. More than 100 teachers and other visitors interested in educational activities attended the fair.
“Lithuanian museums offer a wide range of educational activities, but teachers are not always aware of them. Fairs like this help discover new opportunities for collaboration,” said Liveta Repšienė, the creator of the event idea and a member of the History Teachers and Educators Association (IMES).
According to representatives of the National Museum of Lithuania, quality history teaching does not happen only in the classroom – it continues in museums, archives, and authentic locations, where history can be experienced innovatively by exploring artifacts from the past.
The “Education Fair” was organized by the History Teachers and Educators Association (IMES), established six months ago, which brings together history teachers, scholars, educators, and other professionals related to history teaching. The organizers hope that this event will become a tradition.
