The 11th Republican Triennial of Medals
The 11th republican triennial exhibition of medals presents medals, medal compositions and small-scale works created by various artists. The first republican triennial of medals took place in 1984, and since that time the tradition has been continued for more than two decades.
The exhibition addresses various themes: commemoration of prominent people, events and a great many phenomena of public life. Some of the medals were created during the international residencies of medallists held in Telšiai from 2012 to 2016. The exhibition also contains works created earlier but not previously exhibited in republican triennials of medals.
Participants of the exhibition are artists of various generations working in different styles: Jolanta Balkevičienė, Petras Baronas, Algirdas Bosas, Eglė Čėjauskaitė-Gintalė, Danius Drulys, Jurgita Erminaitė-Šimkuvienė, Vaidila Liudvikas Gedminas, Petras Gintalas, Jonas Grunda, Romualdas Inčirauskas, Tamara Janova, Lina Kalinauskaitė, Juozas Kalinauskas, Gvidas Latakas, Stasys Leonas Makaraitis (1938– 2014), Benas Narbutas, Jonas Noras Naruševičius, Antanas Olbutas, Sigitas Rekašius, Petras Repšys, Mindaugas Šimkevičius, Aurelija Šimkutė, Remigija Vaitkutė, Asta Vasiliauskaitė, Beata Zdramytė, Skaistė Žilienė, Gediminas and Leonas Žukliai, and a guest artist from Ukraine Olena Dodatko. Medals and badges created at the Lithuanian Mint and LLC Alpera are also presented in the exhibition. Medals are made from various materials: copper, bronze, brass, cast iron, steel, gypsum, clay and stone; they are cast, electrotyped and forged. The majority of the works are non-standard, not always precisely circular, and have low or high relief. The exhibition aims to present the medal art in general and the features of its development.
