Online discussion “Museums in times of COVID-19: the role of technology in communities’ engagement”

The role of a museum, its mission, responsibilities, and type of engagement with the community depend on broader social, economic, and even technological changes. To maintain their relevance, museums need to become more responsive to pressing societal needs. Each museum has a potential to use its exhibitions as well as cultural and educational program to become an agent of change – contribute to the development of its community and challenge the traditional notions. What is the role of technologies in this process? What are the ways to enable technologies to build the bridge between the museum and its community? The question gained special importance with the rise of COVID-19, which encouraged museums to engage in various technological solutions.

On June 16th, at 11.30 EEST the Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Lithuania and The National Museum of Lithuania invites museum workers and specialists of the field to an online discussion on the role of technologies in the museums’ community’s engagement during COVID-19 crisis and beyond. The participants of the discussion:

  • Kajsa Hartig (Head of Museum Experience and Collections, Västernorrlands museum, Sweden);
  • Heidi Reinius (one of developers of fi, Finland);
  • Rūta Kačkutė (Director of the National Museum of Lithuania);
  • Gabrielius Sužiedėlis (Director of Kaunas City Museum, Lithuania).

Discussion will be broadcasted live on the Facebook page of the National Museum of Lithuania, thus we encourage you to actively participate and share your questions with the participants. The event will be carried out in English, its recording will be shared in this event afterwards.

The event is a part of event series “Nordic Talks” by Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Lithuania. Nordic Talks is an open source event platform, which brings authors, scientists, innovators, and speakers of all stripes to audiences in Lithuania to share their stories that are important for Nordic-Baltic cooperation.
