Neolithic Age
The most numerous flint inventory of the Neolithic period originates in the settlements of South East Lithuania – the basin of the Merkys River. The museum also holds a large collection of Stone Age artefacts from Samogitia – the basin of Lake Biržulis, East Aukštaitija – the basin of Lake Kretuonas, and South Lithuania – the basin of the Šešupė River. Unique wooden, bone and amber artefacts from the excavated settlements of Šventoji, and an impressive variety of ceramic fragments from Nida considerably expand the understanding of both the material and spiritual culture of our forefathers. Šventoji and Nida are the largest excavated settlements of the Narva and Baltic coastal cultures of the Neolithic period in Lithuania.
