Women, Fighters and Revolution in Rojava

Join us for a discussion with Jihan Eyo (University of Rojava), Yushan Huang (School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences Paris) and Dani Ploeger (The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London). Drawing from their research, artistic practice and first-hand experiences, they will talk about the role of women fighters in Rojava (Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria) in relation to contemporary cultures of resistance, emancipation and technologization.

Jihan Eyo is a teacher in the department of English translation at the University of Rojava and has worked extensively on media reports about the region. Originally from Serekaniye, which is currently under Turkish occupation, she has been active as an advocate for gender equality in the Rojava Revolution since its inception in the early 2010s.

Yushan Huang is currently conducting her PhD in sociology at EHESS, The School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences in Paris. Her research focuses on the intersections of the Rojava Revolution and gender emancipation.

Dani Ploeger is an artist and cultural theorist of technology who also makes technological things for revolutions. He is one of the initiators of the Rojava Center for Democratic Technologies, based at the University of Rojava.
